How I construct my open-mouthed bear heads (a photo tutorial)

BillyBear-1.tif

This is the pattern I was using in 2018/2019 for my open-mouthed cubs. I've reworked the pattern since that time, but thought my old open-mouthed bear head might be a good starting point for someone who wants to practice the basics of the open-mouth construction. You should be able to right-click-save the images. You have my permission to create and sell any bears you make with my old head pattern, but I would sincerely appreciate it if you mention in your listing description that you're using my 2018 pattern.

Clean the fur from the seams, turn the head, and voilà! You have a smiling bear!

OK, yeah, I did skip a bunch of steps (closing the head with the wobble-joint, sinking the eyes, stitching the nose, shading the face), but this tutorial only covers "how to construct the mouth inset".

If anyone actually gets this far into the process and wants to know more about the other techniques I use for the rest of the bear, get in touch with me and I'll try to add more patterns and tutorials that might help. The more bearmakers we have out there, the better!
